Restoration foods will open late April
as a members only buyers club.
There are 12 spots remaining at this time.
We will open to the public in the fall.
Edgewater, Maryland is a community
rich in natural resources.
The last of our local farmland is threatened by development, while we import increasing amounts of food at a huge environmental cost.
Restoration Foods will sell seasonal produce and other farm based and local goods to help restore the community’s connection to the land, while using a portion of profits to help increase the number of local school and community gardens.
Goals:
- Combine the convenience of a market with the freshness of a
Community Supported Agriculture subscription.
- Increase percentage of revenue to farmers in a market setting.
- Reduce distance and other waste between farm & fork.
- Create a revenue stream for local school and community gardens.
- Promote the rapid increase in locally available foods.

Local Purchasing
Due to high land prices, local foods are limited in availability. The goal is to eventually source most items from Southern Anne Arundel County and near by areas, but until more products are available, the focus will be extended to the Chesapeake Watershed.
The store founder's local four season farm, Ivy Brand, will supply the store in the winter.
When items are brought in from other areas to fill selection, priority will be given to helping sustainable businesses recover from natural disasters. For example, at this time many Vermont farmers and sustainable businesses are in crisis after the devestation of Huricane Irene. Thoughtful purchases can help shape the direction of the recovery. |

Who we are:
Sara Colhoun is a local organic farmer that realized that small family farms alone will not be enough to restore our local food system. Combining many years of market farming experience with several years of Food Systems research, this store has been designed to meet the needs of the Edgewater community while supporting a rapid increase in locally available foods. The founder's local four season farm, Ivy Brand, will supply the store in the winter. Other local and regional organic farms will be used for supply the rest of the growing season.
We will be raising money to help Grow Annapolis increase the number of school and community gardens. Pleases see their website for examples of their important work in the Annapolis, Maryland area.
This business is inspired by the idea that sustainable business methods will not provide the bold step we need at this point. We must use commerce as a tool to reverse ecological damage by focusing purchases on items that use environmentally restorative methods. To learn more about Restorative business, please visit the Rocky Mountain Institute webpage, as well as the Bioneers website.
